Making Life Better

by Bonita Katz, BA RN ICCE ICBD IAT CLC

We’ve been busy this summer!

Conference

We’ve moved from planning an in-person conference to an online one. October will be an exciting month with a new bundle of webinars released each Tuesday. We listened to your input and chose to present the topics you most wanted to hear about – teaching tips and comfort measures, mental health, inclusiveness, and infant feeding. Stay tuned for details!

ICEA Childbirth Educator Certification (ICCE)

This program has been updated. In keeping with ICEA’s commitment to bring you the most up-to-date, evidence based information our programs are updated regularly. To accommodate the international community which may not have access to the same books that are available in the US, all of the objectives are now linked to online sources. A new section on the principles of adult education has been added.

2020 Board Nominations

How time flies! This year is more than half over, which means we’re planning for next year already. A big part of that is ensuring we have some new board members. The Nominating Committee has been hard at work interviewing nominees. The formal announcements will be made next month.

Thank You For Your Hard Work

No one person could make all of this happen. We have some hard working board members who have recruited enthusiastic and willing committee members. All of them have put in serious time and effort to make all of these things happen. I’m sincerely and deeply grateful for all that they’ve done (and continue to do!) to make ICEA a great organization.

Become a Volunteer

What are your gifts? Would you like to be a part of making a difference on a national and international level? Our Board of Directors would love to hear from you. Email us with suggestions. Volunteer your time and energy.

I’m reminded of a poem by R.L. Sharpe that I was taught when I was growing up:

Isn’t it strange how princes and kings,
and clowns that caper in sawdust rings,
and common people, like you and me,
are builders for eternity?

Each is given a list of rules;
a shapeless mass; a bag of tools.
And each must fashion, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block, or a Stepping-Stone.

As all of us stand on the shoulders of those who preceded us, and we also are stepping stones for those that follow us. I encourage you to get involved. Share your gifts. Help us build a nurtured world through professionals trained in family-centered maternity and newborn care.
