A Note From the ICEA President | ICEA People

by Bonita Katz, BA RN ICCE ICBD IAT CLC

The very best thing about working with ICEA is the people. My fellow board members are dedicated, caring, intelligent individuals who work diligently to bring you excellent programs – conference, position papers, and webinars. They are also very interesting, having varied backgrounds and talents. They have made the last two years a fascinating journey. I’ve also met several ICEA members in various parts of the world (before travel became difficult). It inspires me to hear the passion of someone new to this work. You know what a difference birth makes in the lives of people and you want to make it the best experience it can be. This is worthwhile work. I began my first Presidential newsletter by saying that I wanted to change the world. It is a bit cheeky to think that any one person could possibly do that. And that would be my point: alone I cannot do it. But if I support and encourage you perhaps your world will change a bit for the better. And if that happens you may help someone else. Like ripples in the water when a pebble is dropped in a pond one small action can have an ongoing affect. Changing the world happens one person at a time. Small things like teaching a class or holding a hand during labor may seem inconsequential, but that one small action may be all that is needed to make a world of difference. So I encourage you to keep up the good work. We have had to face many challenges this past year, but your ingenuity and creativity have been nothing short of inspirational. Thank you for the work you do! I would also like to introduce you to Elizabeth (Liz) Kirts who will become ICEA President on 1 January 2021. We have served together on the ICEA Board for many years. I am grateful to be able to pass the baton to someone with her experience and insight. My thanks to Liz and the others who have journeyed with me these last two years. ICEA people are among the best – supportive, encouraging, and dedicated to making the world a better place. Warm wishes to you and yours in this holiday season!
