Advancing Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity

In the wake of George Floyd’s tragic death, the ICEA Board of Directors and staff reaffirm our pledge to run an organization that has no tolerance for racism and seek to support all families regardless of race, religion, color, creed, gender identity, sexual identity, national origin, or social class. You can read our full statement and learn about our continued commitment to train educators and doulas who offer culturally-sensitive education and evidence-based support for all childbearing families here. But we don’t want to simply offer our words. We want to take concrete steps to advance diversity, inclusion, and equity. Though the board is in continued discussions regarding our efforts for change, we wanted to share the first three steps we’re taking to make this a reality.

  • Develop a racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse committee of certified professionals who will address the global challenges of diversity, inclusion, and equity in the context of the ICEA community and the families we serve.
  • Host a listening session with certified professionals to hear their concerns and suggestions as it relates to racial injustice and how ICEA can better serve them.
  • Amplify the voices of educators and doulas of color by sharing their stories with our sphere of influence.

To join the new committee, attend the listening session, or volunteer to share your story, please complete this form. If you have any further thoughts or suggestions, please contact our Executive Director, Katesha Phillips. We commit to listening to you.
