As a Childbirth Educator, Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, or combination of all three, you’ve always worked hard to promote family-centered maternity care. Your expertise has changed lives. The compassion you demonstrate to your families has improved birth outcomes for all. So, we’re inviting you to submit a nomination for the ICEA Board of Directors. Come share your knowledge and expertise. ICEA is currently seeking volunteers for the following positions:

  • President-Elect
  • Treasurer
  • Director of Doula Education
  • Director of Conferences
  • Director of Lactation

President Elect

Responsible to: ICEA President and Board of Directors Purpose of job: To prepare for the term of ICEA President Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one term on the ICEA Board of Directors prior to becoming President-Elect.
  • Ability to accept responsibility for decisions affecting ICEA.
  • Ability to supervise volunteer workers.
  • Long range planning ability and experience.
  • Ability to maintain view of ICEA, while dealing with details of all ICEA programs and services.
  • See the ICEA Bylaws, Article IV, Section 2 for further details on qualifications of the members of the ICEA Board of Directors.

Major areas of responsibility:

  • Works in conjunction with other board members on oversight, training, and renewal for IAT’s and IHT’s.
  • Participate on the Executive Committee
  • Provide support and input to ICEA workers as required and requested.
  • Review content of ICEA publications and periodicals as requested by the President and other Board members.
  • Supervise the revision of ICEA job descriptions on even numbered years.
  • Serve as an ex officio member of all committees.
  • Assume duties of president in her absence.
  • Speak for and represent ICEA when needed.
  • Assume vacant positions as needed.
  • Respond to all Board/Committees/Management Company correspondence

Treasurer

Responsible to: ICEA President and Board of Directors Purpose of job: To review selected financial aspects of ICEA’s work Qualifications: See the ICEA Bylaws, Article IV, Section 2 for details on qualifications of the members of the ICEA Board of Directors. Major areas of responsibility:

  • Authorize expenses as per current budget.
  • Participate on the Executive Committee which includes the President, President-Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer.
  • Monitor investment of ICEA reserve funds.
  • Assist ICEA Management Company with preparation of annual budget.
  • Report monthly the financial status of ICEA to the ICEA Board of Directors.
  • Review monthly financial reports as received from the ICEA Management Company
  • Review the annual budget submitted by each Director
  • Prepare and coordinate budget for the coming year.
  • Oversees scholarship committee

Director of Doula Education

Responsible to: ICEA Board of Directors Purpose of job: Monitor the implementation and revision of doula educational programs. Qualifications: Knowledge of adult education principles; hold certification in at least one ICEA program; other qualifications as stated in the ICEA Bylaws, Article IV, Section 2. Major areas of responsibility:

  • Chair the Doula Education Committee
  • Create and maintain a list of all committee members
  • Oversees the development and content of the Birth Doula and Postpartum Doula + 1,000 Days programs
  • Assist with the development of policy for doula programs and approve any exceptions to the established policy.
  • Facilitate the development and updating of educational services and contact hours
  • Set agenda for committee meeting
  • Assist with new certification and certificate programs
  • Webinar Committee member

Director of Conferences

Responsible to: ICEA Board of Directors Purpose of job: Assist with the planning and implementation of the annual convention Qualifications:

  • Experience with event planning, development, and implementation
  • Other qualifications as stated in the ICEA Bylaws, Article IV, Section 2.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Chair the Conferences Committee.
  • Oversee conference staff and assist with all conference and webinar activities.
  • Secure volunteer staff with input from the Management Company, President, and President Elect
  • Conduct on-site selection and bids with Management Company.
  • Meet on-site prior to start of conference to go over duties.
  • Review speaker abstracts and conference programs.
  • Review all print materials with the President and President Elect.
  • Greet speakers at the conference.
  • Review menus and bills with the Management Company.
  • Attend hotel preconference meeting.
  • Review all letters and forms.

Director of Lactation

Responsible to: ICEA Board of Directors Purpose of job: Update and educate the board on matters pertaining to breastfeeding; promote breastfeeding. Qualifications:

  • Must be a credentialed lactation care provider.
  • Must be willing to represent ICEA on the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC)
  • Ability to accept responsibility for decisions affecting ICEA.
  • Ability to supervise volunteer workers.
  • Long range planning ability and experience.
  • Other qualifications as stated in the ICEA Bylaws, Article IV, Section 2.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Provides the BOD and the membership with regular updates on breastfeeding (research and science), the WHO code and products related to breastfeeding.
  • Takes on projects related to lactation and infant feeding, as directed by the President or Board.
  • Reviews all breastfeeding information provided by ICEA to its members.
