Elizabeth Kirts, MPH, ICCE, IBCLC, RLC
10:20-11:20am Social Media: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
Elizabeth (Liz) has been working with parents and families since 1997 when she was hired as part of a OJJDP Grant to educate families with “at risk children” in rural settings.
She then went on to earn a Master of Public Health with an emphasis in Maternal Child Nutrition in 2000.
Always wanting to work in a pregnancy and birth setting, she began teaching childbirth classes for the Perinatal Education Program at the University of Utah Hospital in 2000. With two years of experience teaching, she was promoted to coordinator in 2002.
This role expanded as she took on the oversight of the Baby Friendly Designation earned by the hospital in 2008. Her role on the Baby Friendly team led to earning an IBCLC in 2009.
With not enough to do, apparently, in 2019 Liz asked to form a unified Lactation Team at the hospital and has grown this from 3 IBCLCs to 14 and oversight on the Outpatient Team of 4 IBCLCs.
This past year, with the help of her dept. admin, her program took on being Dept. Champions for hospital volunteer doula program. This program has been improving and growing since moving under the department.
Liz has been on numerous committees and boards through her 26 years, including, ICEA, Mountain West Mothers’ Milk Bank (found board member and past board chair), Donor Connect Organ and Tissue Donation, Utah Breastfeeding Coalition, Utah Lactation Prison Program, March of Dimes Advisory Committee, and many more.
In her free time, Liz plays flute(s) for the Utah Medical Orchestra, sings and plays flute for her parish, is active in volunteer work, loves to hike, box, and attend yoga classes.
She is mom to three children and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
