I don’t know if there is better preparation for a time like this than working in the birth world. We need to know the basics of labor and birth and at the same time be knowledgeable about the unexpected. We do not fearfully anticipate something going wrong, but we are prepared in case it does.
It is discouraging to think that we face the same battles that were fought almost fifty years ago. Rather than allow my frustration to build, I tried to think of solutions. The culture around birth must change… and not only must it change, but we must consider ways to sustain the changes.
How are you illustrating pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum to those you teach? Do you show your clients a range of emotion? Don’t forget that affective domain of learning. Capture their feelings. Grab hold of their hearts.
You are making a difference. Your work as Childbirth Educators, Birth Doulas, and Postpartum Doulas is changing the world and improving birth outcomes for all families. Thank you.
We’re excited to announce our 2020 Conference will be held on 5-8 November 2020! Mark your calendars and make sure you don’t miss it. Information about registration, hotel, and exhibit space will be released at a later date.
When I visit someone’s home or office, one of the first things I notice are the books. Books tell you not only a person’s interest, but their range of interests. They may appear worn because they are well-read or perhaps because they are a treasured gift or remembrance from someone special.
The world needs more Childbirth Educators, Birth Doulas, and Postpartum Doulas who value compassion, collaboration, and choice. Help us raise $2,020 for the ICEA Scholarship Program.
Help spread the legacy of ICEA throughout the world. Donate now to our scholarship fund and give the gift of certification.
Many of your efforts may be unseen by others, but I am reminded of the old saying, “Mighty oaks from little acorns grow.” Small acts of kindness, seen or unseen, can make a tremendous difference. Thank you for the work you do.
We hope you’ll join us next week for our Annual Meeting on 21 October 2019 at 2:00 PM ET. This meeting will be held via webinar and the board will discuss updates from this year.
The International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) is a professional organization that supports educators and health care professionals who believe in freedom to make decisions based on knowledge of alternatives in family-centered maternity and newborn care.
