Secretary
Responsible to: ICEA President and Board of Directors.
Term: Fill the remainder of the current term (through 31 December 2024) and the next two-year term (01 January 2025 – 31 December 2026).
Purpose: Takes attendance at each Board meeting and ensures that a quorum is present to conduct business; oversees the revision of ICEA Bylaws and the ICEA Handbook.
Qualifications per the ICEA Bylaws, Article IV, Section 2
- No person shall be selected or appointed a Director unless such a person is a professional certified by ICEA. The office shall be considered vacant if that person’s certification lapses or, for any reason, is considered invalid.
- No voting member of the Board shall serve in the same selected office for more than two (2) consecutive terms.
- A voting member of the Board shall serve on the Board no more than six (6) consecutive terms.
- A term shall be defined as service of more than one (1) year during any two (2) year term.
- No member of the Board of Directors shall receive financial remuneration from ICEA for service rendered to ICEA as a member of the Board.
- The selection and appointment of Directors shall not be based on race, creed, sex, political affiliation, or any other factors not related to interest in education for childbirth.
- No person shall be selected for more than one (1) selective position at a time.
Major areas of responsibility:
- Chair the ICEA Bylaws Committee.
- Participate on the Executive Committee, which includes the President, President-Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer.
- Take minutes at every Executive Committee and Board meeting and submit for review by the Management Company within two weeks of the meeting.
- Coordinate revision and distribution of the ICEA Bylaws (during odd years) and ICEA Handbook *during even years).
Director of Public Policy
Responsible to: ICEA President and Board of Directors.
Term: Fill the remainder of the current term (through 31 December 2024) and the next one-year term (01 January 2025 – 31 December 2025).
Purpose: Manage public policy for ICEA regarding pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and the immediate postpartum period.

Additional Qualifications:
- Editing and reviewing skills.
- Ability to accept responsibility for decisions affecting ICEA.
- Ability to supervise volunteer workers.
- Ability to maintain the view of ICEA as a whole while dealing with details of all ICEA programs and services.
Major areas of responsibility:
- Keep current on policies from birth-related topics from organizations such as American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), International MotherBaby Childbirth Organization (IMBCO), Lamaze International, DONA International, Postpartum Support International (PSI), and Association for Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health (APPPAH). Coordinate with the Director of Lactation on International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA), United States Lactation Consultant Association (USLCA), US Breastfeeding Committee (USBC), etc.
- Support the mission, policies, and programs of ICEA as adopted by the Board.
- Take on projects related to public policy, as directed by the President or Board.
- Chair the Public Policy Committee, as needed.
- Maintain awareness of doula and childbirth education policies and legislation at the state and federal levels.
