A Note from the President | Looking Forward

Note from the President
January 2023

Welcome to 2023! Just a few months ago, I had planned to end my term as President of ICEA the 31st of December. However as announced I will continue in the role for one more year as I train Debbie Young to come in as President for 2024.

We held our first Board Meeting for 2023 yesterday and I’m really excited about the upcoming year. We have added Debbie, Stephanie, Patty, Chevonne, and Emily to our board; all of whom have so much to offer. It’s going to be a great year for ICEA. We have a group of dedicated and enthusiastic members with many ideas on how to support you as professionals. As I welcome the new board, I want to thank Bonita Broughton for her years of service on the board. Her term ended and she was unable to continue right now. She has been a wonderful person to work with over the years and will be missed.
ICEA will be promoting and supporting Childbirth Education Awareness Week which will be held January 25-31. Watch for information and promotional materials. We want the world to know how much Childbirth Educators do for the families they serve. CBE’s are a critical part of the allied healthcare team. We love you and thank you for all you do!

As we are supporting our educators, let’s also remember that January is National Birth Defects Awareness Month. Some but not all birth defects are preventable and impact the family from pregnancy through the lifespan. As educators, doulas, and lactation support, we can help connect families to resources, research appropriate goals/expectations, and offer support. Here is more information from the CDC and here for information from the National Birth Defects Prevention Network.

If you have not been to the website recently, it’s worth taking a look, ICEA website. We spent about a year going through every detail of every page. We hope you will find the new site user friendly, appealing, and a great resource. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make this happen.
Since we will not be having a conference in 2023 we would like to focus on webinars and blogs. If you have an idea or passion, please let us know info@icea.org and we will be in touch. All of you is what makes ICEA so great.

As always, the BOD directors is here to serve you our professionals. We are eager to listen to your ideas and help you when needed.
