Perinatal professionals are in a unique position. They are at a great risk for and experience high levels of compassion fatigue AND interact with a population at risk for the same thing! What are the causes of compassion fatigue? (I’ll discuss this. I was surprised by some of the causes!!) If you work in the perinatal field, you are at risk! I’m going to talk about prevention and amelioration because the chances are, most of YOU already have this!
Self-care is really important and I’m going to focus the largest part of this presentation on this. It will be interactive!

Jana is a native Southern Californian. She is a nurse, lactation consultant, childbirth educator, basic life support instructor, and the mother of 8 breastfed children. Most people are a lot more interested in her as a mother than a professional. Yes, she did give birth to all of them, one at a time. If you stay after, she’d love to bore you with photos and tell you all about them. She enjoys reading, writing poetry and short stories and sleeping whenever she gets a chance.
