The International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) is a professional organization that supports educators and health care professionals who believe in freedom to make decisions based on knowledge of alternatives in family-centered maternity and newborn care.

ICEA and the ICEA Approved Trainer (IAT) agree that the birth of a baby represents the birth of a family. That family-centered maternity care is based on a "team" including the woman and her family, healthcare providers and community resources. Freedom of choice is based on knowledge of alternatives and the risks and benefits of those alternatives. That childbirth is a process that can safely take place in hospitals, birth centers, and homes. A maternity care system should be based solely on the needs of the mother, family, and child rather than the needs of the facility.
The following credentials symbolize the qualifications our approved trainers are authorized to teach and sponsor:
- IAT-CE (Professional Childbirth Educator Workshop)
- IAT-D (Doula and Labor Support Training Workshops)
- IAT-CPD (Postpartum Doula Training Workshops)
