Convention 2008: Day Two

Research Update with Debby Amis

I am sitting in this session and it is packed full of amazing new research studies from all around the world. So much new information is coming out to support normal birth and breastfeeding, this session has really opened re-energized my commitment to family centered maternity care. Download the materials for this session because she has given you all of her slides reviewing each study in easy to understand terms

Breakout Session One

I attended the Positive Posture: Using the Practice of Yoga to Prepare for Normal Birth. Ann Israel gave a great experiential session and I feel like I left understanding so much more about how the mind body connection influences pregnancy and labor. Ann will be teaching a workshop through Lamaze about Yoga for Pregnancy/Labor. If you are interested in learning more about this check out her website at http://www.yogaformoms.com

Orgasmic Birth Screening

It was such a treat to see this movie for the first time at convention with a room full of other like-minded women. It was certainly a stirring presentation of the disparity between un-inhibited home birth and interventional hospital birth. And, yes, there were a few videos of women who achieved orgasmic birth. Definitely worth seeing!

Breakout Session Two

Teri Schilling's Creative Labor Rehearsals was very refreshing with lots of great teaching strategies. Check out her website at http://www.passionforbirth.com

Celebrating the Decades with Penny Simkin

What a treat to get a glimpse of Penny's life work along with the evolution of birth in the last fifty years. Penny challenged us all to look to the future and anticipate how we can intervene in the industrial birth machine. She is an inspiration to us all. Visit her online at http://www.pennysimkin.com

DJ & Dancing

We danced the night away and enjoyed a great time letting our hair down together. Pictures coming soon!
