2018-2019 ICEA Board
Do you have a few hours a month to volunteer for your profession? Would you like to help others all over the world support family-centered maternity and newborn care? Do you enjoy the camaraderie of working together with a great team, developing new skills, and promoting freedom of decision making based on knowledge of alternatives?
If you answered yes to these questions, then please consider joining the ICEA Board of Directors or volunteering for any of the ICEA Committees.
The slate of candidates for the 2018-2019 ICEA Board of Directors will be prepared this fall by the ICEA Nominating Committee. All nominees must be members of ICEA at the time of the nomination and must have been ICEA members for two consecutive years prior to being placed in nomination.
Positions to be filled are listed below.
Responsibilities of Board Members
Members of the Board of Directors are expected to consistently contribute time and energy to Board business and to the specific responsibilities of their position. Serving on the ICEA Board of Directors offers a unique opportunity to enhance skills and develop expertise in new areas.
The term for all positions is from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2019. Business is conducted primarily by monthly conference calls as well as frequent e-mail communications between Board members. There may be one or more face-to-face meetings per year, as well.
Nomination and Selection Schedule
The ICEA Nominating Committee will meet following the submission deadline and will report to the President. The committee will consider all persons who have submitted nomination forms by the deadline.
The results of the selection will be announced in the 2017 December issue of the International Journal of Childbirth Education and the newsletter.
The Nomination Procedure
The Nomination Committee uses ICEA Selection Standing Rules as its guide in selecting candidates.
Consideration is given to:
• Available time
• Previous experience in childbirth education or related fields
• Firm commitment to fulfilling the job responsibilities
The Nominating Committee will seek a balance between:
• Persons with prior board experience and newcomers
• Maternity care providers, educators, and consumers
• Geographic areas
The slate shall include one candidate for each position unless the committee is unable to locate any qualified candidates. An interested member must submit her/his own name for consideration. The interested person can obtain a position description from the ICEA Central Office.
Complete the nomination form. All forms must be received by May 31, 2017.
Positions To Be Filled
Designated Directors shall serve two-year terms. Four of the committee chairs will be selected on even years and three will be selected on odd years. If any new committees are formed, the chairs will serve two-year terms from the time of appointment of the chair of the committee. Designated Directors serve as members of the ICEA Board of Directors and as such chair committees that are of prime importance to the organization. The available committees are conventions, education, communications, public policy and marketing, international relations and lactation.
ICEA is currently seeking volunteers for the following positions on the Board of Directors:
- Director of Education
- Director of International Relations
- Director of Conferences & Webinars

- Military Mothers Initiative
- Communications Committee (Editing, proofreading, blog contributions)
- Conference Committee (Exhibit hall, speakers, advertising)
- International Relations Committee
- Public Policy Committee (Create White Papers and assist with policy making)
- Marketing/Membership Committee (social media, advertising, attracting new members)
- Lactation Committee (Keep members informed of the latest breastfeeding information)
- Education Committee
